1) Partial Re-wire in Brighton & Hove
Back in June 2026 I got a call from a homeowner over in Furze Hill who said their lights had tripped and wouldn't come back on. They lived in a block of flats and one of the other flats above had a leak which on investigation turns out had damaged part of the original mineral insulated cable on the lighting circuit.
Unfortunately, if mineral insulated cable has been damaged by water, it's often more practical and cost-effective to replace that section of the circuit rather than attempt repairs. After confirming this I explained the situation to the customer and I suggested partially re-wiring the lighting circuit to replace the damaged section of cable.
Lucky for us and the customer they had a dropped ceiling which helped up as we could fish cables through without cutting loads of holes and making good after. It took us a day to get it replaced and tested to confirm the issue was resolved.
Not every property needs a full re-wire. In many cases, replacing a single lighting circuit, socket circuit or damaged section of wiring is all that's required to bring part of your installation back up to a safe standard.

One of the biggest issues I come across is that unsafe wiring has simply been left in place.
Rather than replacing deteriorated cable, sections are sometimes left in place and someone has carried out a very dangerous “repair” by removing the RCD or disconnecting the earth cable from that circuit. This isn't just dangerous, this can be life threatening.
Another issue I come across during partial rewires is that the existing fuseboard isn’t suitable for the work required and needs upgrading. If the fuseboard doesn’t meet current safety standards, it will often need to be upgraded before any new circuits can be installed safely. This can include adding RCD protection where none is currently fitted.
Finally, I'm still surprised how often homeowners tell me they've never received any certification after electrical work has been completed. Every partial re-wire I carry out includes the appropriate testing and certification so you have a record of the work that has been completed.
