1) Chandeliers and Statement Lighting in Brighton

A chandelier can completely change a room, but fitting one isn't always as quick and easy as people imagine.

One job that springs to mind was a chandelier I put up a few months back. It came with over 600 individual crystal pieces that all had to go on by hand before it was even ready to hang. Then by the time the crystals were on, it was a lot heavier than the fitting it was replacing. Before it was going anywhere near the ceiling I had to go up into the loft above and strengthen the mounting. Took a couple of hours all in but honestly it was worth it as it looked stunning.

I see this kind of thing a lot. Everyone naturally just thinks about what a fitting looks like, but what's going on above the ceiling is just as important. Some of these chandeliers weigh a lot more than people expect and a lot of standard ceiling fixings just aren't up to it.

I cover Brighton and the surrounding areas fitting chandeliers and statement lighting for homeowners, landlords and businesses. Simple swap outs or more involved jobs like stairwells and entrance halls, I always check what the wiring and mounting point look like before anything goes up.

2) A Couple of Jobs Worth Mentioning

Another one I remember well was a block of flats on Brighton seafront getting its communal lighting upgraded. The management company wanted something that matched the regency feel of the building so they settled on vintage chandeliers for each floor.

The electrical side wasn't the hard part. It was everything around it. High ceilings, tight stairwells, residents coming and going. You've got to think it all through before you start. It's a good example of how jobs that look pretty routine on the surface often have a lot more to them.

3) What Happens When You Get in Touch?

Call or drop me a message through the website and I'll come back to you the same day.

For a straightforward replacement I can usually get a rough idea of cost from a few photos. If it looks more involved I'll pop out and take a look so I can give you a proper quote and talk through what's needed.

After that I'll put a written quote together so there's no guesswork about what's included. We pick a date, I get it done, test it all and leave everything tidy.

4) Problems I often come across

The main one is heavy fittings that haven't been put up properly. I've walked into jobs where someone has taken down a small pendant and replaced it with something three times the weight without giving a second thought to what's holding it. Some of them I am surprised didn't fall down!

Then there's the wiring, which catches a lot of people out, particularly in older Brighton properties. There can be several cables sitting behind a fitting and the colours don't always line up with what the instructions show. Plenty of times I've been called in after someone has got partway through, hit a wall and thought it's probably best to get someone in. Which is always the sensible move.

5) Pricing

We usually charge around £80 + VAT per light fitting. The majority are sorted within an hour or two, though bigger or more awkward jobs will take longer and we may need to price separately. I'll always be clear about likely costs before anything starts so there are no surprises.

7) Frequently Asked Questions

Can you fit a chandelier I've already bought?

Yes, it happens all the time. I'll check the wiring and fixing point before it goes up to make sure everything is safe and suitable.

How long will it take?

Most standard jobs are done in an hour or two. Bigger fittings, especially ones that need building on site or need extra support putting in, will take a bit longer.

What if the fitting is particularly heavy?

Not a problem at all. I'll look at the existing fixing and put additional support in if it's needed.

Do you work in commercial properties?

Yes. Apartment blocks, communal areas, commercial premises, private homes, I've done the lot.

Will there be much mess?

I tidy up as I go and leave everything as I found it before I head off.

Is the work guaranteed?

Yes, 12 months on all workmanship. The fitting itself will normally carry its own manufacturer's warranty on top.

Do you need to come out before quoting?

Not necessarily. Plenty of jobs I can price from photos. Anything more complex I'll come and have a look so I can give you an accurate picture.
